Html can only do so much to amp out your web page. If you want it to look more professional I suggest you add some Javascript code to it. If you want a basic tutorial on javascript you can watch video tutorials on youtube. A guy named Bucky makes the best. If you want to cut and paste some javascript code into your website after you understand the basics it should help your site alot. Adding Forms to your website makes it look more professional to.

What is the best graphic design website for keeping up to date?

with things such as photoshop, illustrator, indesign and so on. One of the biggest things is keeping up to date with the graphic design world. Im looking for things such as tips, tutorials, news and whatnot. Any good websites you recommend?

Web Design grammargirlavatar cropped1 Website Design Tutorial Q & A qanda Website Design Website Video Tutorial

Summer answers:

Most are design blogs, and there’s so many!
First, if you have a gmail account, use the google reader, which is to keep all your blogs organized and helps you keep up-to-date. These sites/blogs help you keep up to date on what’s going on in the graphic design industry and the coming trends and problems. There’s not much tutorials, you’ll have to figure out for yourself (DIY) and/or go onto youtube or lynda.com or onto forums and just search. I know things can get frustrating, but it’s all about learning. Things don’t go smoothly the first time.

Summer answers:

When doing website design, you have to bear in mind your target audience. You also have to create something that’s dynamic and interactive. Dynamic always trumps static. Also as much as it sounds clichey, it’s still “content is king” out there. No use having visitor’s attention grabbed by an awesome design only to have them leave the site because of poor content.

What is the best CMS to use for a tutorial website?

Hi, I’m going to be designing a tutorial website and I need a CMS that can offer similar functionality to this site for example: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/how-to-tech/build-a-computer.htm. I’ve explored Joomla and WP but they are more for blogging I believe. I’m new to this so I’m sorry if this is basic question. I have a small budget (no more than about $300) but would prefer something free. Thanks for your help.

Luke.

Summer answers:

Well, since you know nothing about making a website; I’m gonna say this is gonna take a while. I can’t teach you everything you need to know to make a website like that here, because that will just be to big! They have several books filled with information on how to design and create a web-site. Well, first of all you need to know the basics; html, css, and javascript. These three will make your website look pretty, and give the illusion that your interacting with it (i.e. <img src=”blue.jpg” onMouseOver=” src=’red.jpg’ ” onMouseOut=” src=’blue.jpg’ “ ). You have to, and this is absolutely necessary, you have to know html if you want to make a website. For example, this is the very basic, the skeleton if you will, of your website…

Don’t worry, towards the end of this message I’ll add a link to a site that can teach you all of this; it’s very helpful! Once you’ve mastered html you need to learn CSS. Without css your site, and this applies to all the sites on th internet (including this one) will look ugly. CSS gives you the ability to position, shape, color, format, and everything you need to to make your website look good.

If your lazy, and you just wanted me to add a link here that will make your site for you without you having to do anything but telling it what you want; well to bad. I don’t recommend that cause it’s doesn’t give the flexibility and freedom of making your website by yourself. So here’s the link, http://www.w3schools.com/ , and I wish you look on your long and tedious journey called html coding and programming. Once you’ve mastered those three, you should learn perl and C++ (other programming languages) that will make your website even more powerful, and giving it the ability to do more things.
